As many of you know, Koda is my buddy, my soul companion and my boy. I just love this little guy! He’s 15 now. I can still picture the day I got him. I remember how much I really wanted a West Highland terrier. But when I searched for a local Westie breeder, nothing panned out.
So, what happens when you put your intention out into the Universe … your soul will eventually send you a sign! So, there I was driving to the store with my mom at the time, telling her how I was finally ready to get another dog … and what do I see? A woman walking her Westie!
I immediately pulled over and ran out of the car to catch her. Good thing dog owners are used to people gushing over their pets or she probably would’ve thought I was crazy. I told her my predicament and she provided me the answer. That’s when I found the biggest blessings in my life—Koda.
Let me tell you another story about an organization that’s close to my heart—New Hampshire SPCA. One day I happened to be running errands and driving by their office when I heard a message in my head. It kept saying, “Help them. Help them.”
What do we usually do when these messages come to us? We think it’s only a coincidence and forget about it for a while, right? But this one kept playing in my mind, so I finally listened. I called and made an appointment with Sheila, NHSPCA’s marketing director.
When I visited her office and introduced myself, Sheila smiled, cheering, “I know who you are!” From there, we shared our love of animals and I asked how I could help. Sheila explained that I could set up a special fund and direct donations to wherever I wanted.
Many years ago, I had a dog that was hit by a car. The surgery costs so much money and I wasn’t sure how I’d pay for it without going broke. I know many people face this dilemma, so that’s where I decided to help.
This was back in 2012 when I established The Koda Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. So, whenever any animal—whether it’s rescued, adopted, surrendered or sadly abandoned—needs a critical or life-saving medical treatment, I’m proud to say that The Koda Fund—and all of you who generously send donations—are there for them!
What’s so special about this story, which I am sure you’ve heard me tell many times, is that everything I learned from it, has helped me create My Soul Community, to teach others how to recognize those signs that your soul sends you, and not ignore them so easily.
