The beginning of a new calendar year holds a sacred and potent energy. January may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue to use this inspiring energy to continue navigating your spiritual journey with confidence throughout the whole year.
February is the perfect time to reflect on your intentions, what you want your year to look like and how you want to feel about your life. In my Vision Board Challenge last month we focused on cultivating a feeling state in order to bring our visions to life. But beyond creating a vision board, how do we consciously work toward that desired feeling state in a way that feels abundant?
We stay committed and connected to our spiritual practices! Our spiritual tools are what we lean on when life gets chaotic. They give us the ability to meet life with grace so we can stay connected to our intentions while living life on life’s terms.
To help you feel supported and connected to Spirit as you move through 2022, I’ve compiled a list of 6 spiritual tools to help you feel more aligned and connected with your spiritual journey in 2022.
What is a spiritual practice?
Before we dive into these tools, I think it’s essential that we pause and take a moment to unpack spirituality a bit.
Here’s the thing, no one person can define spirituality because spirituality is an infinite, complex and beautiful spectrum. My values and primary beliefs are likely different from yours in some ways. There are infinite perspectives and relations that each hold divine wisdom.
Here’s what spirituality means to me:
- Spirituality is a conscious relationship with a Higher Power
- It’s a devotion to leading from a place of heart rather than ego
- It’s surrendering to the wisdom of the Universe so that we graciously meet life on life’s terms.
- The commitment to align with our Highest Good
- Recognizing that all life is sacred, and we are all intrinsically connected
What does spirituality mean to you?
Get out your brain-dumping journal or a sheet of paper and take a few minutes to unpack what spiritually means to YOU with these journaling questions:
- Why is spirituality important to you?
- What does spirituality look like?
- What does it mean to be spiritual?
- How can you grow spiritually?
Having a strong foundation for what spirituality means to you is invaluable! So, I’ve compiled a list of practical spirituality tools—tools you can tap into every day to stay plugged into the Divine and aligned with Magic. I’ll share a little more about each one, and then I can go deeper with each concept in a future article if you find these useful!
I recommend reading about each tool, but you can also click on the spiritual tool that most interests you from this list below and go right to that part of the article!
6 tools for Spiritual Alignment
- Forgiveness
- Oracle Cards
- Self-Care
- Meditation and Prayer
- Intuition
- Community
Alright, are you ready to explore each one? Let’s get spiritual!
Forgiveness is a spiritual tool
I’m starting with forgiveness because this is something that folks often forget about when it comes to their spiritual practices. But the power of forgiveness is deep!
Spirituality is more than just inner work; it’s also about creating a mindful relationship with everything in your life, and forgiveness is a sacred practice that transforms your experience of the world around you.
Don’t sleep on forgiveness, my friend! It has the power to heal immensely, and remember that forgiveness looks different for everyone. It’s not about
condoning, it’s about liberating yourself from the negative energy of resentments so you can focus on the healing.
It’s like the saying goes, “Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”
Not a good idea, right? Forgiveness is about cleaning out the poison you drank since the other person is carrying on with their lives while you remain in pain, although it may tick you off immensely. You need to let it go lest you simmer too long in the poisonous soup and find yourself isolated in some alien landscape of disappointment and despair.
Resentment prevents connection, community, and intimacy with others, and it reverberates in all areas of your life. No one suffers but you, even if you have every reason to your anger, and even if you were truly a victim of someone else’s heartless behavior. Remember, after the fact, you are the only one drinking the poison. So, you know you need to practice forgiveness, but you might be asking, “How do I forgive someone?” or even, “How do I forgive myself?” It’s a journey! I shared my journey to forgiveness in this blog post, but I do have an exercise that might help you.
Forgiveness Exercise:
Make a list of what you regret or are still holding onto. If you blame yourself for something, ask yourself, who can you make amends to? Then, meet with that person. Or, if it’s not possible to meet with them, write them a letter. (You may or may not mail it, but the act of writing it out helps you heal too.)
If you must make amends with yourself, write a letter to yourself. Affirm that you did the best you could at the time and you’re forgiving yourself and moving forward.
We owe it to ourselves to set ourselves free from resentments, to lighten our load, to move towards our dream, to spit out the poison. When we do, we become more authentic, more honest, more powerful, and like magic, the right help comes as it always will when we make this kind of inner shift.
Oracle Cards are a spiritual tool
Obviously, Oracle cards are one of my favorite and most trusted spiritual tools! And one of the best things about Oracle cards is that anyone can pick them up and learn how to use them in a matter of minutes!
If you’re new to Oracle cards, I wrote an article about what they are and how to use Oracle Cards for beginners here and I’ve created multiple self-study courses about the basics of Oracle Cards here.
Oracle cards operate on synchronicity, a term coined by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. Synchronicities are meaningful coincidences that tune us into the consciousness of the world and prove to us that there is a power operating outside our “me bubble”.
When you’re seeking a conversation with the Universe about your life, a divination system like Oracle cards, allows you to directly communicate with the invisible forces that operate around you. This open line of communication supports your alignment with your highest good and shows you what you need to reflect on…
I use my Oracle Cards every day to ask spirit to illuminate what I need to know for that day.
If you’re looking to integrate Oracle cards into your spiritual practice, I recommend starting with picking one card every morning to start your day. Readings will reflect your frame of mind, so I like to start in the mornings with a blank slate before the busyness of the day can affect me. It’s important to understand that being in a state of relaxed receptivity, unattached to an outcome, is the best way to approach an oracle.
Some easy one-card reading questions to start your day are:
- What message do I need to receive today?
- What do I need to know about X now?
- What do I need to know today for my highest good?
Pick your card and record the card you got and the general meaning in your journal or planner. If you have time, write about what that means to you, but even if you don’t have time to write, just the act of pulling the card and reflecting on it is an easy way to develop your connection with your Higher Power.
Don’t have your own Oracle deck? Or need a new one to diversify your readings?

Self-care is a spiritual tool
Our individual relationship with self-care is one of the most beautiful parts of a spiritual practice.
The best thing you can do for your self-care practice is to remember that self-care is a fluid and evolving art.
Meet yourself where you’re at that moment! One day self-care might look like a 5 am wake-up call and an extra hour of meditation, another day it’s sleeping in and cooking a homemade meal.
Remember that you don’t have to wait until you’re exhausted to practice self-care. It’s like I always say, “put your oxygen mask on first before you help others.” When your cup overflows everyone around you feels that energy. Self-care isn’t an occasional remedy for stress, it’s a moment-to-moment devotion to self.
A very easy way to practice a moment of self-care anywhere at any time is this tip I’ve shared in my free 7 Energies Challenge each year. I always call it “making a figure eight on your face” but apparently it’s really called “facial effleurage” (So fancy-LOL!)
In just a few seconds, this process calms the nervous system and relaxes many of your facial muscles. You can use it in conjunction with tapping as well — and it works great on dogs and babies, too! It’s easier to understand when you watch it in action, so here’s a short video:

Meditation and Prayer are spiritual tools
Meditation is listening to the Universe. Prayer is talking to it.
I mentioned that I see spirituality as a conscious relationship with a Higher Power. Learning to communicate with the divine forces that are always around us is essential for deepening your ability to manifest, heal, and align with your highest good.
Miracles are abundant when we learn how to listen and communicate with the Universe. I started my spiritual journey with meditation over 35 years ago and today it’s still the number one spiritual tool I recommend to those who want to deepen and evolve their spiritual practice.

Prayer is just as important because communication is a two-way street!
I can’t tell you enough how essential it is for you to clearly communicate what you need to know about, dream and intend with the Universe, Your Higher Power, God, etc. Prayer is a potent spiritual tool for anyone, regardless of religious belief.
My favorite prayer for spirituality is the Serenity Prayer:
When we look at the Serenity Prayer, the first part is about surrendering to a Higher Power, acknowledging that we are seeking peace and the help to radically accept what is in front of us, and recognizing when we are powerless. It is about humility and the acknowledgment of that divine partnership.
The second part is about summoning the courage to face our responsibility and accountability for our part in co-creating our reality. Change brings resistance and courage implies that sometimes it’s scary and we may not have the experience to know what to do and what will occur, but it’s up to us to make the changes where we have the power to do so.
The third part reminds us that we need discernment when it comes to what we can influence and what we can’t.
When you break it down like that it’s easy to see how powerful this little prayer is, right? This is why I recommend using this and your own prayers to establish a conscious contact with your Higher Power!
Intuition is a spiritual tool
Your intuition is the whisper of your soul (emphasis on the whisper—wink, wink).
Intuition doesn’t exist without trust because intuition doesn’t sound or communicate the same way as the logical intellectual mind. Your intuition communicates with you through a spectrum of subtle and magical mediums, all unique to YOU.
A couple of common examples of how your intuition communicates with you are a feeling in your gut, an enhanced auditory experience, or physical sensations like tingling. However, clear sensory messages aren’t the only way that your intuition communicates with you!
Our soul attracts synchronicities that help us grow, evolve, and transform, being able to recognize these intuitive nudges keeps us in alignment with what’s meant for us.
Synchronicities show us that we are in constant collaboration with the Universe. Noticing them is the first step in working more consciously with your intuition. Often we won’t understand the messages we receive from our intuition until things come to fruition, so lean into your self-trust and be mindful of those meaningful coincidences!

Community is a spiritual tool
There’s something truly divine about the camaraderie within a group of people that share a common goal. We’re not meant to do everything alone, we’re meant to come together.
When humans feel supported, accepted and seen in community, each individual has the opportunity to surpass operating in survival mode and embody what it means to truly thrive.
Community amplifies our capacity to heal, innovate and manifest. Personally, I believe that community is a pure expression of abundance. Having a community is truly a sacred spiritual tool for sustaining growth along your journey.
There is pure MAGIC in allowing yourself to be seen and supported by others.
Naturally, I created a spiritual community that serves as a space for those who want to be supported along their journey with the magic of Oracle Cards and more. If you’re interested in learning more about that, check that out here in my Oracle Circle Membership.
